Need to implement RTE in Minority Schools

The need for the implementation of RTE act to the minority run schools.

The Constitution of India given the right to minorities to establish and administer the educational institutions where they can give admission to non minority students also.

However there is an interesting fact that these institutions are kept out of the RTE act which is enabling any student belonging to economically weaker families to seek the admission in the private school of neighbourhood.  Minority schools are  Kept  out of the ambit of the RTE act which according to me is something looked into due to following situations...

1. Minority institutions not only give admission to their own community but also to the students belonging to other communities.

2. There are cases where most of the minorities schools are being run on the strength of the students belonging to non minority students. For example many Convent English medium schools are being run by the Christian minorities in so many states and cities across the country. These schools are known for their higher academic standards as well as the fee they charge.

3. There may be several such schools where the numbers of other students might be more compared to the students of minority students for whom they might have been opened. As these schools do charge the higher amount of fee to maintain the standards of infrastructure and to retain the best teaching staff therefore children belonging to the families of  well economic background are able to study in these schools.

4. There might be the case of some poor minority who is not able to send his or her child to these schools considering the higher fee structure. There may be many more such children belonging to other economically weaker sections of the society.

5. There is a concept of neighbourhood school under the RTE act,  according to which any child studying in class 1 to 5 should be provided with the schooling within the 01 Km distance from the residence. There may be the situation where only the minority school is located at such place and the child may be belonging to the economically weaker section of the society in this situation the right of the child is suffers which needs to be addressed.

Under the RTE act the Tuition fee of the students admitted under the RTE is reimbursed by the respective state govt and in Uttarakhand presently the maximum  amount is Rs 1383.00 per month or the actual fee charged by the school whichever is lesser. As the very first concept of the schooling is that these should not be opened just to earn the profit but these should be run on the basis of no profit and no loss. Therefore these schools are to be brought under the purview of the RTE to maintain an equitable society.....
